DQ is well-known for its expertise in the area of data protection law, both from a contentious and non-contentious perspective. We act for individuals and companies of all sizes, and our experience in this area includes advising in respect of data breaches, bringing or defending complaints to the Information Commissioner and also bringing, defending and/or settling data protection claims in the Isle of Man High Court.
Our team aims to provide helpful, pragmatic and cost-effective advice to clients and works with DQ’s leading Regulatory & Compliance team when appropriate. In particular, where acting for the data controller we understand that urgent assistance is typically required and that a commercial approach towards litigation is necessary to navigate difficult and at times very technical points of data protection law.
A number of our team are qualified Data Protection Practitioners (PC.dp).
Some recent examples of our work in this area include:
- Acting for a local financial institution in defending a claim for compensation regarding an alleged breach of the data protection legislation.
- Acting against a local financial institution in respect of a failure to comply with a subject access request in the context of a $5million dispute.
- Assisting a range of clients with their GDPR obligations arising following large volume subject access requests.
