DQ’s ongoing commitment to the development of a more sustainable society has been further endorsed by receiving a Sustainable Mann certification from UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man.
Hosted by Earthscope Isle of Man, the Sustainable Mann programme comprises of seven in-depth workshops covering numerous aspects of sustainability in businesses:
- Innovation – Enhancing sustainability by exploring and implementing new ideas;
- Nature – Protecting and supporting the Island’s biosphere through business practices;
- Green Marketing – Ensuring authenticity when promoting sustainability;
- Waste – Focusing on the reduction and responsible disposal of waste;
- Circular Economy – Reusing resources to reduce unnecessary waste;
- Climate Change and Energy – The impact of energy use on the environment and exploring how it can be reduced;
- Legal and Fiduciary – The current legal framework surrounding sustainability, and possibilities for the future
The sessions aim to support the development of sustainable business practices on the Isle of Man, helping businesses work towards a resilient, secure and prosperous future. DQ is proud to have represented the Isle of Man legal sector as one of 16 businesses forming this year’s cohort.
As a UNESCO Biosphere partner, DQ is committed to protecting the Isle of Man’s environment, supporting its communities and building resilience within businesses. Accreditations such as this provide invaluable practical insights which can be implemented into the firm’s own practices, helping to embed sustainability into DQ and drive progress towards its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) pledge.
These measures include
- Implementing waste reduction measures, including recycling programmes and responsible procurement practices.
- Recording energy usage to work towards becoming carbon neutral.
- Providing regular environmental training for staff and engaging in charity work to raise awareness in the wider community.
DQ established its own ESG committee 18 months ago with a commitment to ESG principles, setting a benchmark for other small businesses to follow in the pursuit of positive change.
Recognising the vital role small businesses play in the Isle of Man’s drive towards sustainability, it integrates ESG practices into its operations, contributing to the development of a more sustainable and inclusive society.
At the core of DQ’s ESG Strategy is the acknowledgment that, as a boutique local law firm, it can make a significant impact by focusing on community engagement, supporting local initiatives, and promoting diversity and inclusion within its workforce.
