Alexander Armstrong


Alexander is an Associate within the dispute resolution team

Alexander is an Associate within the dispute resolution team and is also a Commissioner for Oaths.

Alexander recently joined DQ from another leading Isle of Man law firm. He enjoys a busy and diverse practice focused on civil and commercial litigation. Alexander accepts instructions in a number of areas including debt recovery, landlord and tenant disputes, personal injury, interlocutory relief including freezing injunctions and Norwich Pharmacal orders, and insolvency work. Additionally, Alexander has particular experience in the registration and enforcement of Orders from foreign Courts, including Arbitration Awards, within the jurisdiction of the High Court of Justice of the Isle of Man.

Alexander is an experienced Advocate frequently appearing before the Isle of Man High Court and Summary Courts. He appears both as sole and Junior Counsel and welcomes instructions to work in a team alongside other members of DQ.

Aside from appearing in the Manx Courts, Alexander also welcomes advisory instructions to provide opinions on all areas of Manx Law. Alexander has recently provided advice on areas such as forum, intestacy, planning and education appeals and disguised remuneration schemes to a number of clients and to foreign Courts.

Alexander is the current Chairman of the Isle of Man Young Lawyers’ Association and a former recipient of the Isle of Man Law Society’s George Johnson Law Prize.

Notable cases in which Alexander has been involved:-

Magee & Co v Sartfell Education & Others – successfully opposed an Application to Strike Out the Defendants’ Counterclaim.

Isle of Man Financial Services Authority v Montpelier (Trust and Corporate) Services Limited – successful Application on behalf of the Manager and Receiver of Montpelier to confirm the date of appointment and scope of powers, following disagreement with Montpelier’s Directors.

Akhmedov v Akhmedova – acting as Junior Counsel, successfully obtaining recognition and execution of a English Order for £350 million (branded ‘Britain’s largest ever divorce case’) in the Isle of Man together with Worldwide Freezing Injunctions, Charging Orders, Winding Up Orders and asset recovery of a private jet, helicopter and tender.

Golar LNG NB13 Corporation v Sahara Energy Resource – acting as Junior Counsel, successfully obtaining recognition of a foreign arbitral award in the Isle of Man.
